abstract

introduction: mesenchymal stem cells can be isolated from adult tissues, such as the adipose tissue, or other sources. among all these sources, adipose tissue because of easy access, and placenta due to its immunomodulatory properties, in addition to another useful properties, were attracted more attention to themselves. isolation and comparing these two different sources can help us for accessing a proper source of isolation for clinical use. materials and methods: adipose stem cells and placenta mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from subcutaneous adipose tissues of 10 healthy women (25-40 years) and  from a fresh term placenta, respectively. stem cells were characterized by flow cytometery using cd29, cd31, cd34, cd44, cd45, cd105, cd166 and hla-dr markers. osteogenic and adipocyte differentiation were performed and different characteristics of stem cells with two different sources were compared.  conclusion:  these two sources of stem cells show similar surface markers, morphology and differentiation potential and because of their multipotency to differentiate to adipose and osteocyte, they can apply as attractive sources of mesanchymal stem cells for regenerative medicine.   keywords:  adult stem cells, fetal stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, differentiation.

Biological behaviors of muscarinic receptors in mesenchymal stem cells derived from human placenta and bone marrow

Objective(s): Cells perform their functional activities by communicating with each other through endogenous substances and receptors. Post-translation, stem cells function properly in new host tissue by carrying specific cell surface receptors. We aimed to characterize muscarinic receptor subtypes in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) together with osteogenic and adipogenic...

Differentiation Potential of Nestin (+) and Nestin (-) Cells Derived from Human Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells into Functional Insulin Producing Cells

The feasibility of isolating and manipulating mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from human patients provides hope for curing numerous disease and disorders. Recent phenotypic analysis showed heterogeneity of MSCs. A nestin progenitor cell is a subpopulation within MSCs which plays a role in pancreas regeneration during embryogenesis. This study aimed to separate nestin (+) cells from human bone mar...

Comparison of Characteristics of Human Amniotic Membrane and Human Adipose Tissue Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

BACKGROUND Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are ideal candidates for treatment of diseases. Amniotic membranes are an inexpensive source of MSCs (AM-MSC) without any donor site morbidity in cell therapy. Adipose tissue derived stem cells (ASCs) are also suitable cells for cell therapy. There is discrepancy in CD271 expression among MSCs from different sources. In this study, the characteristics...

Isolation, Characterization and Differentiation of Rat Adipose Tissue Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Introduction:   Mesenchymal stem cells have the potential of self-renewal and differentiation into different cell types, including blood cells, heart, nerves and cartilage, and have unlimited power for division. These cells can be obtained from cord, before implantation from fertilized cells and also from various tissues of adults although the differentiation power and the ability to reproduce ...

Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived From Human Adipose Tissue into Cholinergic-like Cells: In Vitro Study

Introduction: Cholinergic-associated diseases currently constitute a significant cause of neurological and neurodegenerative disabilities.  As the drugs are not efficient in improving the suffered tissues, stem cell treatment is considered an effective strategy for substituting the lost cells. Methods: In the current study, we set out to investigate the differentiation properties of human adip...
